Enrolling in the New Pension Scheme is simple and hassle free. You can enroll at any time
if you are a citizen of India and between 18 to 55 years of age. The earlier you start the
greater will be the growth of your pension wealth.
After you open an account, the Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA), shall mail you a
“Welcome Kit” containing your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) and other
details relating to your account. Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) is a unique
account number, which will remain the same for the rest of your life. You will be able to
use this account and this unique PRAN from any location in India. The PRAN allocated will
be the primary means of identifying your account.
A separate Telephone Password (TPIN) will be allotted to enable you to access your account
on the NPS toll free telephone number (1-800-222080). In addition, an Internet Password
(IPIN) will be provided for accessing your account on the
CRA website – www.npscra.nsdl.co.in
You are required to make your first contribution at the time of applying for registration
at any POP-SP.
